The FAFSA® form will be available on October 1, 2023, for the 2024-25 school year. Deadline for this is June 30, 2025.

CONTRIBUTOR: It is a new term that is added on the 2024-25 FAFSA form.

It means anyone who will provide the relative information, consent, and approval  about tax from IRS.

Anyone can be: You, your spouse, your biological or adoptive parent, or your parent’s spouse

A family member who is listed as a contributor on the FAFSA® form isn't bound to cover your educational expenses.

Your spouse will only be listed as a contributor if you are currently married (and not separated) but did not pay taxes jointly if you are classified as an independent student on the FAFSA form.

Note: Depending on how you respond to specific questions on the FAFSA form, you can still be seen as independent even if you live with your parents.

You need to answer some questions about your personal circumstances to check that you are a dependent or independent student.

Your parent will be listed as a contributor if you are taken into consideration as a dependent student.

Additionally, the spouse of a married parent who did not file jointly will also be contributing if they are not divorced.
