House GOP majority could decline as Representative Buck prepares to step down early.

Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colorado) announced on Tuesday that he will not be serving out the remainder of his term through 2024 but will be leaving Congress later this month.

Why it matters: The unexpected revelation will further reduce the already precarious majority of House Republicans.

“Today, I am announcing that I will depart Congress at the end of next week,” Buck declared in a message shared on social media.

“I look forward to staying involved in our political process, as well as spending more time in Colorado with my family.”

In between the lines: Buck, a conservative Freedom Caucus member, has become an isolated Republican critic of House Republicans’ attempts to remove President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas from office.

He declared in November of last year that he would not be seeking reelection to Congress this year.
